The Carolina Hurricanes announced today they have mutually agreed to terminate the contract of defenseman Grigorii Dronov. Which is odd, considering they signed the deal two days ago.

The team's release simply states: "...the Hurricanes have agreed to mutually part ways with defenseman Grigorii Dronov."

Dronov spent the last six seasons playing for Magnitogorsk Metallurg of the KHL, so that makes sense as a likely landing spot. However, another NHL team can still scoop him up, as unlikely as it is.

In 189 games for Magnitogorsk, Dronov posted just 39 points; he is what you call a defensive defenseman. And Carolina is absolute loaded on defense, so the fit was always suspect.
