Back in May after an eighteen-year professional career, Roman Polak announced his retirement from hockey. He cited his reason for retiring was because he lost his appetite to play the game.

Flash forward four months later and Polak is returning to an NHL organization. According to Aaron Portzline of The Athletic, the Columbus Blue Jackets have hired Roman Polak as a European-based amateur scout.

"#CBJ have hired former #NHL defenseman Roman Polak as Europe-based amateur scout, replacing Milan Tichy, who has joined the Edmonton #Oilers as head amateur scout.

#CBJ GM Jarmo Kekalainen drafted Polak for the #STLBlues in 2004." Portzline said in a tweet.

Polak, 36, spent parts of fourteen seasons in the National Hockey League with St. Louis, Toronto, San Jose and Dallas. In 806-career games, the Ostrava (Czechia) native put up 140 points (26 goals, 114 assists) and 643 penalty minutes.

When the NHL returned from their COVID-19 break in 2020, Polak opted not to join up with the Stars for their playoff run and signed with HC Vitkovice in his home country, where he played the next two seasons before retiring.
