Quebec Remparts head coach Patrick Roy has been suspended one game and fined $5,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct and inappropriate comments in the media, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced on Wednesday.

Roy, 56, was ejected in an exhibition game against the Shawinigan Cataractes after an argument with the officials in the first period. This isn't uncommon at this level of hockey, but had a bit more context behind it as it was the same official who removed Roy from a playoff game last season. That resulted in the Hall-of-Fame goaltender going on a postgame tirade explaining why he believes he is being treated unfairly.

«As I told my players, I don't feel I'm getting the same treatment as other coaches around the league,» Roy said. «That's why I try to do as little talking as possible during games. I thought it was funny that the league put us against Shawinigan in an exhibition game. They were tactless.»

Roy has been known for his fiery temper for some time, both during his playing career as well as his coaching. While it is possible that refs are unfairly targeting him, it is likely more a case of his temper getting the best of him. Nonetheless, he is already making headlines during exhibition play and should provide plenty of content throughout the 2022-23 season.
