Now that the New York Islanders missed out on Nazem Kadri, it is possible they target free agent forward Sonny Milano as a replacement. Obviously, Kadri is a center and Milano is a winger, but the Islanders' center depth is considerable enough that Kadri would have been overkill.

Lamoriello should be in desperation mode as it pertains to free agents, as the Isles have signed zero of them since July 13. They are in dire need of offensive help, and Long Island-native Sonny Milano makes more and more sense everyday.

Milano has really come into his own lately after struggling to crack the NHL to start his career. Tallying 34 points in 66 games for the Ducks, he proved he can be a contributor when put in the right position, and he likely secured himself a solid raise. Part of the reason he is unsigned likely has to do with his track record before 2021-22. In short, it is inconsistent.

If the Islanders are looking for an affordable alternative, they could possibly offer Milano a similar deal to Dylan Strome or Max Domi's contracts; one-year, mid-range salary that gives him the chance to earn a big deal in 2023.

Milano would slot right into the Isles' middle-six, but they would probably have to make a trade to fit him. Right now, Lamoriello has $11M to sign Dobson, Romanov, Bellows, and anyone else he might want to add. Romanov is reportedly already signed around $3M/year, and Dobson reportedly has agreed to a 'big money' deal. Let's just say Dobson secures $6M/year, that leaves Lou with $2M to sign Bellows and add another piece.

I don't know what Lou has planned, but he'd better act quick. Isles' fans appear to grow more and more impatient each day, and after missing the playoffs following back-to-back conference finals, the situation needs to improve or there could be a changing of the guard on Long Island.
