Kyle Dubas has--as is typical--drawn lots of criticism over his offseason moves thus far, most notably over the Matt Murray solution to the team's glaring goaltending issue. Other transactions include Ilya Samsonov, Denis Malgin, Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Adam Gaudette, Jordie Benn, & Victor Mete. While his moves thus far can't be considered objectively bad, I don't think anyone can argue that they are objectively good either. Luckily for Dubas & the Leafs though, the rest of the Atlantic Division has made lateral improvements as well. One solid signing for them though, is the signing of Calle Jarnkrok.

Four years, $2.1 million AAV, Jarnkrok (30) is a grizzled NHL veteran with 574 games under his belt. More of a defense-first forward, Jarnkrok has managed 241 regular season points & 19 playoff points in 75 such games.

Jarnkrok's acquisition by the Calgary Flames would not ultimately pan out, and last season as a whole was unusually ordinary for the Swede. Points-wise he scored about what one might expect, but he sported a -14 rating & only four points after being traded to the Flames. Who knows what effects might befall him in Toronto's loaded offense, but it is safe to say his acquisition will help out with the load from a defensive standpoint. As for the four-year contract, that could pan out either way:
