After the Wild re-signed Marc-Andre Fleury to a two-year contract extension, Cam Talbot's agent, George Bazos, met with Bill Guerin to discuss Talbot & his place on the Wild's roster. If you'll recall, last spring during the playoffs Cam Talbot was none too pleased with the way Head Coach Dean Evason handled the goaltending duo. Riding Fleury for the entire series against the St. Louis Blues, only opting for Talbot in Game 6 after the netminder was out of action for about 6 weeks. From there, a noticeable rift developed between player & organization.

Tensions cooled at season's end, when Guerin assured Talbot's camp that he was a vital part of the Wild's plans this summer & that the starting job could be his. However, when the team announced Fleury's extension--$500,000 more per season for Fleury than Talbot--Bazos met with Guerin to vocalize their frustration & concern that Talbot would once again play second fiddle to Fleury in the 2022-23 season.

'Billy has a lot to think about.'

That stood out to me. It seems that Bazos might want to facilitate a trade for his client, in order to secure a starting job. However, Talbot has been good-not-great over his career. At his worst he's been sub-replacement & at his best he is an average starting goaltender. As half of a tandem with Fleury, Talbot is a valuable part of the Wild organization, but if he truly is as disgruntled as it seems his camp may submit a formal trade request. Not that it is of any consequence to Bill Guerin:

«I don't have shit to do. Cam Talbot's under contract. George can say whatever the hell he wants. My team's set right now, and that's the way it goes. We can have all the discussions we want. Cam's a member of our team. We really like Cam. All we're trying to do is win»

Jinkies! Billy G from the top rope. You hate to see it if you are in Cam Talbot's camp. By the sound of it, Guerin gives little consideration to Bazos' comments & expects Talbot to be a part of the Wild's team next season. Not known for his timidness, Guerin let it fly this afternoon & will focus on the plight of his organization over the whims of one player's agent. With lots to sort out between now & October, surely this is not the last we've seen or heard from the Wild GM.
