According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, Edmonton Oilers defenceman Duncan Keith has decided to retire from professional hockey at the age of 38.

"Word is Duncan Keith of the Edmonton Oilers has decided to retire. The 38-year-old has one year left on his deal at $5.54 million AAV. Heck of a career, two-time Norris Trophy winner and Conn Smythe Trophy winner," LeBrun said.

Keith is no doubt going to be a Hockey Hall of Famer down the road. The Winnipeg native spent seventeen seasons in the National Hockey League, sixteen with Chicago and one with the Oilers. In 1,256 career games, Keith had 646 points (106 goals, 540 assists) and in 151 playoff games, he put up 91 points (nineteen goals, 72 assists).

During his career, Keith won the Stanley Cup three times as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks, in 2010, 2013 and 2015. He also won the Norris Trophy twice and was the recipient of the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2010.

According to Frank Seravalli, via CapFriendly, the Chicago Blackhawks will have a recapture penalty towards their salary cap for the next two years because of how Keith's contract was structured. In 2022-23, the penalty is $5,538,462 and in 2023-24 it is $1,938,456.

Congratulations to Duncan Keith on an outstanding career and best of luck in retirement.
