The Philadelphia Flyers may be without Joel Farabee for the beginning of the 2022-23 season, as the forward underwent successful disc replacement surgery in his cervical region on Friday morning.

The Flyers announced this on their team official twitter account, while stating that the expected recovery will take three to four months. It seems a bit strange that Farabee waited until the end of June to get the surgery, but likely wanted to exhaust all other avenues before undergoing the procedure.

Like many Flyers in 2021-22, Farabee struggled to the tune of 17 goals and 38 points in 64 games. Given that he was rewarded with a six-year, $30 million deal last offseason, they will need him to contribute more moving forward. That said, he is a very talented player, and at just 22-years-old, there is still plenty of time for him to develop into the point producer the organization envisioned.
