The IIHF announced on Saturday that Helsinki Halli, which is owned by Russian oligarchs Roman Rotenberg and Gennady Timchenko, will no longer be used as one of the venues for the 2022 World Hockey Championship in May.

Instead, Helsinki Ice Hall (pictured), home of HIFK in Finland's Liiga, will host Group A at the World Championship. Group A will feature Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Slovakia, Denmark, Kazakhstan, Italy, and France, who was named as a replacement for Russia on Friday.

"The Helsinki Ice Hall, opened in 1966, will host its 4th IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships were played there for the first time in 1974 and the most recent one was in 1991. Also, a group in the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship was played at the Helsinki Ice Hall." said 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Organizing Committee General Secretary Heikki Hietanen.

The 2022 IIHF World Hockey Championship will get underway on Friday, May 13th with four games, France vs Slovakia, United States vs Latvia, Germany vs Canada, and Finland vs Norway.
