The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced on Saturday morning that Carolina Hurricanes forward Nino Niederreiter will have a hearing for slashing Washington Capitals forward Axel Jonsson-Fjallby.

The incident occurred with nearly six minutes remaining in the opening period of Friday night's game. Niederreiter gets hit hard into Washington's bench by Capitals forward Tom Wilson. His helmet came off, and he clearly wasn't too happy about being hit. When he goes to pull his stick out of Washington's bench, Niederreiter swings his stick towards Jonsson-Fjallby.

Niederreiter received a two-minute minor for slashing on the play, while Washington's bench was assessed a two-minute minor for unsportsmanlike conduct.

In 55 games this season, the Chur (Switzerland) native has 31 points (17 G, 14 A), 18 penalty minutes, and is a +16.
