The Chicago Blackhawks are entering a rebuild. A move that was announced by General Manager Kyle Davidson during his introductory press conference earlier this month.

Davidson made his first deal since announcing that the team was going to be rebuilding, shipping 23-year-old forward Brandon Hagel and two fourth round picks to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for two first round picks, Taylor Raddysh and Boris Katchouk.

Speaking with the media after the trade, Jonathan Toews shared his thoughts, and he didn't seem too happy seeing Hagel get moved.

"Yeah, if Hags is the guy to get traded, if he's not a guy that's a part of a rebuild, then I don't know," Toews said.

He added, "I don't know if anyone feels safe at this point, with the way he's been playing and what he's meant to our team. I had a hard time thinking in my mind that he would be one of the guys to get shipped off, considering what he brought in. Yeah, that was a tough one to see. I'm pretty shocked, for sure."

Toews, who's set to become an unrestricted free agent in July 2023, went on to say that he's not sure if anyone on his team feels safe going into this rebuild.

"Now, all of a sudden, you realize no one on our team is safe, and we could all be going in different directions in the near future - it's pretty discouraging," Toews said. "I'll leave it at that for now."

The Blackhawks have at least two more players that could be on the move by Monday's 3 p.m. ET deadline, defenceman Calvin de Haan and goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury.
