Dauphin Kings defenseman Klim Georgiev of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League has been suspended for a minimum of 18 games for making an alleged racist gesture during a recent game.

The league announced the news Monday that he was suspended for an incident directed at an Indigenous player after a game between Dauphin and the Waywayseecappo Wolverines last Saturday.

Georgiev made what appeared to be a bow-and-arrow gesture after the final horn. The MJHL stated that he will sit out at least 11 regular-season games and seven playoff games.

The 20-year-old issued an apology to both the player and the Wolverines organization as well. The apology was accepted, and now Georgiev is going through anti-racism and cultural sensitivity training.
