Montreal Canadiens defenceman Jeff Petry has been in trade rumours over recent weeks, but any deal would be tough to complete given the term and salary left on his contract.

The 34-year-old was having a rough season up until the Canadiens brought in Martin St. Louis as interim head coach. In 38 games before the St. Louis hiring, Petry had six points (one goal, five assists) and looked a fraction of the player that put up 40+ points in four consecutive seasons.

Since St. Louis was brought in, Petry's play has drastically improved. In seven games, the Ann Arbor native has five points (two goals, three assists), and his strong play recently has likely shown interested teams what he is capable of.

One team that could be in the mix for Jeff Petry is the Philadelphia Flyers according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

"I can see Philadelphia in on Jeff Petry. It makes a lot of sense for them," Friedman said during his 32 Thoughts article.

Following the 2021-22 season, Petry has three years remaining on his contract with an average annual value of $6.25 million. Sportsnet's Eric Engels reported earlier this month that the Dallas Stars and Detroit Red Wings are two teams that are potentially interested in Petry.
