According to Mark Lazerus of The Athletic, the Chicago Blackhawks have narrowed down their list of general manager candidates to three finalists.

Those three finalists are Kyle Davidson (current interim GM), Mathieu Darche (Tampa Bay's director of hockey operations), and Jeff Greenberg (assistant general manager of the Chicago Cubs - MLB).

"It's no surprise that Davidson and Darche are on this list. Davidson, the interim GM, has been the frontrunner since the beginning of the process, and Darche was recently a finalist for the GM job in both Montreal and Vancouver. One team source said Davidson has been CEO Danny Wirtz's choice from the beginning; it's just been a matter of convincing president of business operations Jaime Faulkner. The source said Carolina AGM Eric Tulsky also was particularly impressive in his interview and got serious consideration before the pool was narrowed down to three," Lazerus said.

The name Jeff Greenberg surprised a lot of people when it was announced that the team was going to interview him. Lazerus says that Greenberg wowed the Blackhawks during the interview process, but likely remains the wild card among the three candidates.

The Cubs assistant general manager, of course, is the wild card here. Would the Blackhawks really hand over their hockey-ops department to someone with no hockey experience? A team source said Greenberg really wowed the Blackhawks during his interview, but with no president of hockey ops in the Blackhawks' plan, Greenberg would have to be surrounded by knowledgeable hockey people. Would, say, Davidson be interested in stepping back into a support role like that if Greenberg were the choice? Would someone from the advisory committee, such as Eddie Olczyk, take on such an advisory role? We'll have to wait and see," Lazerus mentioned.

Currently, there is no timeline for a final decision on who will become the next general manager of the Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks announced last night they they were moving forward in their search and that the advisory committee has concluded their evaluation.
