Montreal Canadiens defenceman Ben Chiarot has become a wanted man among many teams contending for the Stanley Cup this season. Last weekend, Chiarot suffered a lower-body injury, and with that injury scare, along with the amount of interest, TSN's Pierre LeBrun mentioned on Tuesday that the process may begin to speed up in moving the 30-year-old defenceman.

"The internal debate for the Canadiens now, after they almost dealt Chiarot in the Calgary deal, is how long they drag this out with Chiarot because there's already sizeable interest with other teams. You name a playoff contender; I believe they've phoned. The likes of Florida, Boston, the New York Rangers, St. Louis, among others. The Flames could [also] circle back on Chiarot at some point," LeBrun said.

"The debate the Habs have is that there was a minor scare for Chiarot over the weekend, what happens if that happens again? Do they decide to take the best offer soon? I believe that could happen within the next seven to 10 days. You mentioned a first-round pick, I think they'd love to get a first plus an asset."

During the 32 Thoughts segment on Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman briefly mentioned that there is a lot going on regarding Chiarot on the trade market and that one of the teams playing on Saturday night, St. Louis, remains interested.

"I just hear a lot is going on. St. Louis is one of the teams playing tonight that is interested in Chiarot," Friedman said.

Chiarot is eligible to come off of injured reserve tomorrow. Canadiens interim head coach Martin St. Louis mentioned after practice on Saturday that Chiarot may return to the lineup on Sunday afternoon against the New York Islanders.
