It appears another showdown has taken place between a member of the Edmonton Oilers and a member of the media. This one wasn't in front of the cameras, though. At the very end of a gathering with reporters Friday, Connor McDavid can be clearly heard saying "Spec, can I talk to you for a sec?" before the camera cuts off (sound up).

"Spec" is Mark Spector with Sportsnet who covers the Edmonton Oilers. In a recent column on the firing of Dave Tippett as head coach of the Oilers, here's what Spector wrote:

Connor McDavid uses his surreal speed to fly the zone and scorer highlight-reel goals, but not often enough to prevent chances in his own zone. He's great with the puck, but without it McDavid -- who has spoken of his need to defend better, and has made strides -- still couldn't carry Sid Crosby's equipment bag.

He could, if he wanted to. If McDavid ever wants to win, he'd better learn to want to.

It's being assumed online that this is the reason that McDavid asked to speak with Spector. It's not yet clear what McDavid said to the reporter.

About three weeks ago, the infamous exchange between Leon Draisaitl and reporter Jim Matheson took place where both of them took verbal jabs at each other during a news conference.
