Brad Marchand not happy with latest suspension; considering an appeal
Brad Marchand of the Boston Bruins is clearly not happy with the six-game suspension he received recently from the NHL's Department of Player Safety for "roughing/high-sticking" Tristan Jarry of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
"Very, very hefty suspension for these plays. The only way they can justify that is on the history side of things," Marchand told the media Friday.
"Was it stupid? Of course, it was stupid. I'm not denying that. I absolutely should not have done it. But suspension-worthy? I don't think so."
"These plays were not going to injure Jarry," continued Marchand. "No potential injury on that play. He was very well protected. The fact that it's six games is based on history, not on the play."
He also told reporters that he is considering appealing the suspension.
I get the impression Marchand was not suspended for the force behind the punch or high-stick to Jarry, but more for the unsportsmanlike conduct involved. If that is the case, these comments make it sound as though he's learned nothing from this latest ban.
