The Chicago Blackhawks have begun to interview candidates for their vacant general manager position, with Scott Mellanby and Peter Chiarelli being the first two to be interviewed.

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Blackhawks have an unusual candidate on their list, Jeff Greenberg, who is currently the assistant general manager for the Chicago Cubs of Major League Baseball.

"I think there's another name potentially that's part of this group that's a bit out there. It's Jeff Greenberg, who's the assistant general manager of the Chicago Cubs. I think he's part of their list. Jamie Faulkner, who runs the business empire of the Blackhawks, her husband is an executive vice president (sales and marketing) of the Cubs. So there's the connection there," Friedman said on his 32 Thoughts podcast on Monday.

A few hours after Elliotte reported that, the Chicago Blackhawks announced that they have completed an interview with Jeff Greenberg on Monday.

Greenberg joined the Chicago Cubs in 2012 as an assistant to the general manager. In 2018, he was promoted to director of baseball operations before receiving another promotion in 2021 to become assistant general manager alongside former World Series champion Craig Breslow.
