Though we first heard about it back in the summer, it is becoming clearer by the day that Evander Kane was a serious problem in the San Jose Sharks dressing room.

Reports came out that several players told general manager Doug Wilson during exit interviews last season they wanted the 30-year-old off the team. They got their wish, as Kane was sent to the American Hockey League this season and soon after had his contract voided due to breaking COVID-19 protocols. Perhaps uncoincidentally, the team has performed much better in 2021-22, and on Tuesday, Tomas Hertl made what some have seen as a subtle shot at Kane in regards to why the team has improved.

«I've enjoyed every moment in the locker room this year,» Hertl said. «The locker room this season is much better than before.»

Interestingly enough, Hertl was reportedly one of the players who didn't want Kane back this season, and at the time was hesitant to sign an extension with the team. Without Kane around, however, he has seemed to be much more open to signing a new deal to remain a Shark. These comments will make it all the more interesting to see how Kane fares as a member of the Edmonton Oilers for the remainder of the season.
