It's no secret Jeff Petry of the Montreal Canadiens is having a rough season. After four straight seasons of 40+ points with the Canadiens, the defenceman has just one goal and five assists in 37 games in 2021-22 and is on pace for his worst year in the NHL since his rookie season in 2010-11. It seems some have chosen to target his wife over this.

Julie Petry posted a message she received on Instagram. It in, the person asks her if she's embarrassed that "Jeff is showing your kids that when you don't want to play somewhere, all you do is do your best to play badly and hurt your own team?" The person ended the message with "Disgraceful."

Petry did respond, saying she's very proud of Jeff and that he always owns up to his mistakes, adding he's the perfect role model for their three children.

It's tough to get in some people's heads at times. Yes, Petry is having a bad season. But to say this kind of thing to his wife and have the nerve to bring the couple's children into it just seems low and petty. Also, to suggest that Petry is attempting to play poorly doesn't seem right. If Petry wants out of Montreal, the worst way to accomplish that would be to lower your trade value.
