For parents of hockey players, it's never easy watching your kid step up to a fight on the ice. That worry must intensify greatly when your son decides to challenge a giant like Zdeno Chara.

On Tuesday night, Zack MacEwan, known as a scrappy player, decided to drop the gloves with Chara during a game between the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Islanders. Chara is 44, but his reach advantage alone is tough for most opponents in the NHL to overcome, not to mention the height and weight advantage he has over most. MacEwan didn't stand much of a chance, and was pummeled to the ice, with Chara even asking him if he was ok after they were done (full video included below). Despite her son losing the battle, Juliana MacEwen is proud of him.

"It's always tough watching this part of the game, but I know someone who would have been very proud to see his boy not back down from such an icon," said Juliana while retweeting a video of the fight. "@zmacewen11, your Dad was definitely on the edge of heaven last night!"

A great statement from a hockey mom who, despite being used to seeing her son chuck knuckles with other players, likely still worries every single time. I'm certain both MacEwan and Chara would agree with what she had to say. Chara may be willing to go at a moment's notice, but he also seems like a very nice guy who appreciates the fact that he gets to play hockey for a living.

MacEwan's father, a farmer from Stratford, Prince Edward Island, passed away in May of 2020.
