It was a bit of a surprise Tuesday night when the Colorado Avalanche announced Bo Byram had left the team for personal reasons and would not be playing in the game against the Nashville Predators. No reason was given for his absence, but a report by Colorado Hockey Now states Byram could be gone for a while.

Byram has been very open with his concussion issues, revealing in an article at the beginning of the season that he thought his career might be over this summer after going through some terrible symptoms. According to his father, they've returned.

"He said, 'I can't do it. I can't play and feel like this,'" said Shawn Byram, referring to a phone call he and his wife received from their son.

"I think he feels, like we all do, that he has to really get to the bottom of this," Shawn Byram said. "We're trying to research this and do our due diligence, and the Avalanche have been great. We're happy with how he's been treated and all that. It's ultra-frustrating for him and it's frustrating for us. But we've just got to keep trying. At the end of the day, we're hoping it's a kid playing hockey at the highest level he can."

Byram has suffered at least three concussions in his very short career. The 20-year-old missed time this season with what the team described as a head-related injury. The former fourth-overall pick wants to get back to playing hockey, but has to put his health first, of course. It is being reported that he'll stay in Colorado around team doctors, but there's no timeline for his return.
