With seven teams in quarantine, as many as 60 players with positive COVID-19 tests including some that are showing symptoms, the KHL has made a decision on how it will attempt to curb the outbreak.

Alexei Morozov, President of the KHL, says the league will play for three more days with teams that aren't showing signs of COVID, and will then temporarily shut down. The plan, at this point, is to make up lost games during the Olympic break.

"The epidemiological situation is developing rapidly," said Morozov. "In the last 24 hours 60 people in the League got sick, a number of clubs showed symptoms of the disease. KHL will hold matches over the next three game days with the participation of those clubs where there is no worsening of the epidemiological situation."

"Postponed games will be held during the Olympic break, with the new calendar published by the end of January. FHR (Russian Hockey Federation) has confirmed our ability to hold games during the Olympics, we are in touch to jointly resolve the situation."

According to reports, three scenarios were presented to players to avoid a temporary suspension of games. However, all three were rejected. Games which were supposed to take place on January 15, 17, 19 and 21 are now being rescheduled.
