According to former NHL referee Tim Peel, Evander Kane is expected to sign a new contract in the coming hours, and that deal will be with the Edmonton Oilers.

The Oilers were a team many linked Kane to the minute his deal with the San Jose Sharks was terminated, given their lack of offensive depth behind Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. While nothing is official, if he does indeed sign a deal in Edmonton, it would likely be a one-year contract with a relatively cheap dollar value.

While the Oilers certainly appear to be the frontrunner here, TSN's Darren Dreger also said earlier today that the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning are also pursuing the 30-year-old winger. It sounds like a decision will be made today. Whoever does indeed win the sweepstakes will certainly be a more talented team on paper, but they will have to hope Kane isn't a distraction, something he has been known to be in the past.
