On April 1, the Buffalo Sabres will honour Rick Jeanneret with a banner-raising ceremony, on a night which will be referred to as «RJ Night».

For those unaware, Jeanneret has been the Sabres play-by-play voice for 51 years. Over that time, he has been regarded as one of, if not the best play-by-play announcer in the league, with numerous legendary calls and trademarks that are known by plenty of hockey fans regardless of the team they cheer for. To no surprise, his 51 years in the booth makes him the longest-tenured announcer in the NHL.

This is another feather on the cap for Jeanneret who is a member of the Sabres Hall of Fame, the Hockey Hall of Fame, the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame, the Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Fame, the Township of Terrace Bay, Ontario's Sports Wall of Fame, and is also an honorary member of the Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame. Having a banner raised is a fitting ending for Jeanneret, who is set to retire at the conclusion of the 2021-22 season.
