After what seemed like a great start to the 2021-22 season, the Edmonton oilers are coming apart at the seams lately. The team has lost four straight and has been among the worst in the league over the last month or so. There has been a lot of talk about the possible firing of head coach Dave Tippett and, if Monday night's post-game media availability is any indication, he's certainly feeling the heat.

Tippett's question and answer session with media lasted less than two minutes before he abruptly walked off without indicating that he was leaving. Asked about the first goal of the game, which was scored by the New York Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere after an awful giveaway by Oilers goaltender Mikko Koskinen, Tippett seemed annoyed.

"What do you want? It's a brutal mistake. It's a brutal mistake," said Tippett. "What are you gonna do? Call it what it is. We're playing well. It's a brutal mistake."

Asked about his team's current slump, Tippett said there's plenty to work on.

"I think there's a lot of adversity here. We're learning a lot about our team. Gone through a lot of injury issues, COVID issues. We haven't played as well as we'd like to as a group. There's lots to improve on."

Edmonton fans are clearly restless and want change now. The calls for Tippett to be fired or something to be done to stop wasting Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl in their prime are numerous. Tippett has been head coach since 2019. In his two playoff appearances with the Oilers, the team lost in the qualifying round and in the first round.
