Some frustrating news on Monday regardless of what one's personal opinions on the pandemic are, as the Ontario government announced that as of Jan. 5 that all indoor sports facilities as well as museums, gyms, and movie theatres will be temporarily closed.

This comes as a result of the Omicron variant, one that is spreading very rapidly and health officials fear will only get worse in the coming weeks. Ontario Premier Doug Ford said the province faces a tsunami of cases and hospitals could face shortages of thousands of beds in the coming weeks. He also said that roughly one percent of people with Omicron will need hospitalization, which to some may not sound like a lot, but could equate to 2000 hospital patients per day if 200,000 people were to contract the virus daily.

We all hoped that the pandemic would be in the rear-view mirror by now, but as we are learning that is clearly not the case. This is extremely disappointing for all, and many will likely not agree with it. The best we can do for now is hope that these measures work out and we are able to get back to normality as soon as possible.

There's no word yet on how this might impact the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators. It is assumed an announcement is coming.
