It looks like the Vancouver Canucks have found their next general manager after firing Jim Benning earlier this month. Perhaps not surprisingly, the new GM is coming from the Pittsburgh Penguins organization.

Insider Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff appeared on Sportsnet 650 radio on Friday and said the clear frontrunner for the position is former player and current Penguins assistant GM Patrik Allvin. While Allvin was previously listed as a "dark horse" candidate for the Canucks, it appears former Pittsburgh GM and current Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford is rewarding his loyalty.

Seravalli said all that is left for Allvin is a meeting with the Aquilini family, which owns the Vancouver Canucks.

Allvin, 47, is a native of Sweden and had a nine-year playing career, although he never played in the NHL. He served as Pittsburgh's interim GM after Rutherford resigned from the team and before Ron Hextall was hired. He's been with the Penguins for 16 seasons in various roles.
