This would have been something to behold. According to reports out of Finland, NHL superstar Connor McDavid had signed on to play with HIFK in the Finnish Elite League in 2020 while the NHL was on pause due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

"MTV refers to several sources that McDavid's arrival in Finland in November 2020 was already on paper. In the end, the deal fell through. MTV does not know the reason," said Jatkoaika.com

The report states McDavid would not have been paid a salary, but the team had agreed to cover the huge insurance costs associated with having him play in the league.

It's probably just as well that things didn't work out. No offense to players in the Finnish Elite League, but it wouldn't have been pretty for them. McDavid would have had extra ice to work with and would have no doubt racked up dozens of points in very few games.
