Earlier tonight, Quebec Premier Francois Legault announced new measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 amid a rise in cases. Businesses have now been reduced to 50% for an undetermined amount of time, and with that, the Montreal Canadiens have come out with a statement regarding the news.

In their statement, Group CH President of Sports and Entertainment, France Margaret Belanger, said that the team will have 50% capacity for all home game during the month of January.

"As indicated earlier, we have obtained assurances that we will be able to welcome our fans to our January games at 50% capacity," France Margaret Belanger said.

Two hours prior to puck drop tonight, the Canadiens announced that no fans would be allowed in attendance due to the rise of COVID-19 cases in the province. Attendance for Saturday's game against the Boston Bruins, Montreal's final home game of 2021, have yet to be announced, but news on that should come at some point on Friday morning.
