With COVID making its way to the team and a number of players on the sidelines, the NHL gave the Colorado Avalanche the choice of whether to play the Nashville Predators Thursday night or postpone the game until later. According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, The Avs voted to play.

There are currently five members of Colorado in protocol, including two key names in Cale Makar and Darcy Kuemper.

Due to the shortage in players, the Avs are playing with 11 forwards, five defencemen and an emergency back-up goaltender. There was no time to get anyone to the game from the AHL's Colorado Eagles. Nashville also has a number of players in COVID protocol, with Nick Cousins calling on the league to pause the season.
