The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced on Wednesday afternoon that they've fined Carolina Hurricanes defenceman Ian Cole $5,000 for kneeing Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele.

Just under halfway through the third period during Tuesday's game between Carolina and Winnipeg, Hurricanes defenceman Ian Cole stuck out his leg making contact with Jets forward Mark Scheifele's left knee. Cole received a five-minute major for kneeing as well as a game misconduct.

Cole, 32, has appeared in twenty-four games this season for the Carolina Hurricanes. In those twenty-four games, the Ann Arbor, Michigan native has three points (one goal, two assists), twenty-nine penalty minutes, and is a plus-six.
