Former NHL coach Bill Peters, who left the league under controversial circumstances, is once again looking for work. After resigning as head coach of the Calgary Flames in November of 2019 due to accusations of racism and kicking and punching a player during a game, Peters was hired by Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg of the Kontinental Hockey League. Things seemed to be going very well for Peters in the KHL, until now.

"The coach, who has been leading the team for one and a half years, is leaving Avtomobilist," said the team in a statement. "We thank Bill for his work in our club and wish you a successful continuation of your professional career!"

This sounds like Peters decided to tender his resignation, but in reality there had been rumblings for a while that he may be fired. After making the KHL playoffs last season, Avtomobilist has a record of 14-20 after 34 games and it's unlikely the team will reach this post-season this year. They currently sit in eighth position in the KHL's Eastern Conference.

Peters was head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes, as well as the Flames in the NHL. Akim Aliu accused Peters of directing racial slurs at him while both were with the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. Shortly after that, former Hurricanes players Michal Jordan alleged Peters had kicked him and punched another unnamed player during a game.
