The Montreal Canadiens recently shocked the hockey world with cleaning out the entirety of their front office, and now everyone is wondering who will be the next general manager of the Montreal Canadiens.

Montreal Canadiens insider Eric Engels believes he has a decent idea as to who might be one of the top candidates to fill the vacant position. According to Engels, «Daniel Briere is very high up on the list of candidates being considered for GM of the Canadiens.»

Briere, a Quebec native, had a successful NHL career playing with the Phoenix Coyotes, Buffalo Sabres, Philadelphia Flyers, Colorado Avalanche, and Montreal Canadiens. The skilled forward tallied 696 points (307 goals, 389 assists) in 973 games during his NHL career.
Briere is familiar with the language, market, and Jeff Gorton. He has been in charge of running the Maine Mariners of the ECHL, which was a team that was affiliated with the Rangers while Gorton was the team's GM since 2017. Briere is an up-and-coming executive with a lot of potential.

If he is not hired as the general manager of the team, it would not be surprising to see him hired as either an assistant or in some other decision-making position since the team will need to hire several people in order to fill their front office vacancies.
