Carolina Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov has been fined $5,000 by the NHL's Department of Player Safety for kneeing Philadelphia Flyers forward Scott Laughton.

The incident occurred during the second period of Friday afternoon's contest between Carolina and Philadelphia. Svechnikov went to make a hit on Laughton, but stuck out his left leg, which made contact with Laughton's knee. There was no penalty called on the play.

Carolina went on to win the game, their fifteenth victory of the season, with Svechnikov scoring their sixth goal early in the third period.

The Barnaul, Russia native is having a strong start to his 2021-22 season, currently at over a point-per-game pace. In 19 games this season, he's tallied twenty points (eight goals, twelve assists), thirty-five penalty minutes, and is a plus-twelve.
