The Ottawa Senators officially put goaltender Matt Murray on waivers at 2pm on Saturday. The move comes more than twelve hours after Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman reported that the Sens were planning on putting Murray on waivers.

Speaking with reporters earlier on Saturday, Senators head coach DJ Smith confirmed the news.

"Obviously we want him [Murray] to get going. And you know, he'll be on waivers today. If someone picks him up, gets an opportunity there, if he doesn't, he'll likely go down to Belleville and get an opportunity to play and get his game back." Smith said.

He added, "By no means is this on Matt Murray. We want him to be the best goalie possible and give him the best chance. I think a lot of this revolves around having a lot of injuries, and nothing you can do about it."

In seven games this season, Murray has a record of 0-6-0 with a 3.26 G.A.A., and an .890 save percentage. The Thunder Bay, Ontario native has two years remaining on his contract following the 2021-22 season at an AAV of $6.25 million.

In other waivers news, the Ottawa Senators have claimed centerman Adam Gaudette off waivers from the Chicago Blackhawks according to Chris Johnston of TSN.

Gaudette, 25, has only appeared in eight game for Chicago this season, tallying two points (one goal, one assist), four penalty minutes, and is a minus-three.
