One of those players is Brock Boeser, who not long ago was seen as one of the bright young faces of this franchise. The 24-year-old, who is in the final year of his contract which has a cap hit of $5.875 million, has struggled early on this season with four goals and eight points in 17 games. Despite the struggles however, he isn't a fan of recent trade rumors involving his name, nor does he understand them.
"Yeah, it does," Boeser said to Thomas Drance of The Athletic when asked if the rumors are getting old. "I had some people bring it to my attention yesterday a bit."
"I was confused. I think it's just people looking for an answer out in the social media world with the team struggling, especially now. That's part of it."
From the sounds of things, Boeser wants to remain with the organization who selected him with the 23rd overall pick back in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He also believes he is part of the solution moving forward with the Canucks, not part of the problem.
"I personally don't think I'm going to get traded," Boeser said. "I feel like I'm part of the core here and a big piece. That's just how I feel."
"At the end of the day, I can't worry about that stuff. I just have to go out and perform. It's been a tough stretch for me personally, and obviously for the team. And I set high expectations for myself to go out there and produce and help the team win. Lately, it's been tough."
While it is anyone's guess as to whether the Canucks are shopping Boeser, one thing that is for sure is many teams in the league would love to have him. He has been a very solid producer during his five seasons in Vancouver with 102 goals and 218 points in 270 games.
