The Vancouver Canucks saw plenty of intensity and drama against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, and now we know the fate of captain Quinn Hughes.

Saturday night's affair between the Ottawa Senators and Vancouver Canucks was a chippy one, with plenty of physicality and intensity between the two Canadian teams.

The moment that perhaps spurred all this on was a hit from Quinn Hughes on Ottawa's Josh Norris, with Hughes checking Norris to the back, forcing him face first into the boards.

The play earned Hughes a five minute major and a match penalty, with the Canucks still managing to overcome this as they would go on to pick up a much needed 4-3 victory on Hockey Night in Canada.

However, given the match penalty, many expected the Canucks captain to hear from the NHL's Department of Player Safety, who have come under plenty of scrutiny in recent times.

However, 5pm ET has now come and gone, meaning that the league have not made a decision on discipline for Hughes, which many on social media believe is the right call given the lack of intent behind the hit from No. 43.

The play may not have been the most brutal one we've seen in recent times, but it appears as though the injury to the face of Norris is what forced the officials hand to give a match penalty on the day.

Ultimately though, it appears the right call was made from the league, as Hughes didn't have any intent behind the play and was not trying to intentionally hurt the talented young forward, who would eventually return to the game.

This still leaves many questions about the consistency of the NHL's DoPS, but that's now two times in the past week that they've avoided handing out a suspension on a play that many believed deserved one, so as long as they remain consistent, fans will be happy.
