The ZSC Lions of Switzerland's National League have apparently had enough of former NHLer Mark Barberio. Barberio now plays with, and serves as captain of Lausanne HC. Over the weekend, he was involved in an incident where he crosschecked Garret Roe of the Lions in the face, breaking his jaw and putting him on the sidelines for several weks. The Lions say this is now the fourth incident where Barberio has targeted their best players.

"Ice hockey is a physical sport. Correct and respectful interaction between the athletes is a prerequisite for ice hockey to be played and lived as an element of entertainment," said the Lions.

"Actions with willful and disrespectful behavior against other players must be clearly punished. The health of the players is the greatest good and must be protected accordingly."

"To apologize after every incident but learn nothing from it is pointless and worthless," the team continued. "Ice hockey players are also role models that you want to imitate. The four actions (see video link below) must show that these actions have no place in ice hockey in the future and may no longer occur.

- April 17, 2021, Game 3 in the playoff quarter-finals: Two-handed stick strike by Mark Barberio against the neck/head of Garrett Roe. The action went unpunished during the game and were not sanctioned afterwards.

- April 19, 2021, Game 4 in the playoff quarter-finals: Mark Barberio with a spear against Sven Andrighetto.

- April 19, 2021, Game 4 in the playoff quarter-finals: Mark Barberio with the check from behind against Sven Andrighetto.

- 21 November 2021, qualifying game: Cross check by Mark Barberio against the head of Garrett Roe. Penalized by the referees with 2 minutes during the game. Ordinary proceedings were opened on Monday.

Here is the video made the Lions detailing the incidents:

Barberio, 31, played 272 games in the NHL with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche. This is his second season in Switzerland.
