Just over a month ago, participating nations at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing had to submit their long list of players to the International Ice Hockey Federation. In the days leading up to the October 15th deadline, nations released their first three players that will be on their final rosters. For Canada, it was Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid, and Alex Pietrangelo.

With less than three months until the Olympics kick-off, Canada's general manager Doug Armstrong gave an update on how the roster is coming together so far.

"What we've done is we've projected out our rosters individually, and then you see the synergy," Armstrong said. "If [four] coaches and five managers have the same guys, they're probably going to make the team."

Currently, Canada's long list of players is likely around 50-55, but Armstrong said that they plan to cut that number down at some point in December.

"I would say by early December you want to be down to that final scope of guys so you can really hone into that group," Armstrong added.

Hockey Canada's management group has been meeting monthly in the past, but will start getting together weekly next month. Armstrong says that they plan on naming the roster within the first couple weeks of January.

"We make a list and then the next couple weeks we'll make another list," Armstrong said. "I'd say there's probably 80 or 90 percent of the guys that have been on all of them. I don't really want to share that number quite yet, but there's certain players that I think everyone (on the outside) has on the list, and we'd probably fall into that group of having them also."

Canada will be in Group A for the 2022 Winter Olympics and will face Germany on February 10th, the United States on February 12th, and China on February 13th.
