The NHL's Department of Player Safety announced on Wednesday morning that they've fined Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher $2,500 for roughing New York Rangers forward Barclay Goodrow.

Late in the third period on Tuesday night, Gallagher and Goodrow were in a discussion at the faceoff in the neutral zone. The two then get tangled up, and when Gallagher gets back to his feet, he turns to Goodrow and punches him in the face.

Gallagher received a two-minute minor for roughing, as well as a ten-minute misconduct.

It's safe to say Montreal's frustrations boiled over last night, with Gallagher's sucker punch and Josh Anderson fighting Jacob Trouba after the final whistle.

The Canadiens currently seventh in the Atlantic division with a record of 4-12-2 through eighteen games, and will look to bounce back on Thursday night when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins.
