After relentlessly ripping into the Montreal Canadiens on a couple of occasions now, the Carolina Hurricanes appear to finally be ready to play nice. At least for a day. The team has decided to make a donation to the Canadiens' Children's Foundation in honour of World Kindness Day.

"We may be a Bunch of Jerks, but we still care about our communities," said the Canes on Twitter.

"In honor of #WorldKindnessDay, the #Canes have made a donation to the Montreal Canadiens Children's Foundation."

"We encourage all hockey fans to join us, and make a donation to @CanesGiveBack, the @CHCFondation, or the foundation of any other
@NHL team. Respond with a screenshot of your donation receipt, and we'll give 5 lucky fans a signed puck!"

The war of words between the Canadiens and the Canes all started when Montreal GM Marc Bergevin tendered an offer sheet to Sebastian Aho in 2019. The team would end up matching it, but GM Don Waddell and owner Tom Dundon were clearly not happy about it. Fast forward to 2021, and the Canes decide to tender an offer sheet to Jesperi Kotkaniemi, which the Canadiens would not match. The team's social media accounts made joke after joke over the offer sheet, even changing its bio to french at one point. Then, in Kotkaniemi's first game back at the Bell Centre, he would score a goal, which set off the Hurricanes media team again. A website was created called "didthehabslose.com", which directed users to a give of Aho shaking his head yes and a special price on Aho and Kotkaniemi t-shirts.

The Canadiens may end up having the last laugh, though. Kotkaniemi has just two goals and one assist on the season, not great for a cap hit of $6.1 million.
