The tragedy of the Bratislava Capitals, an Austrian-based hockey team playing in the ICEHL, continues to get even sadder. As you may recall, Boris Sadecky of the Capitals died in hospital a few days after collapsing on the ice during a game on October 29th. Just a day after Sadecky was announced dead, the GM of the team, Dusan Pasek Jr, took his own life at his home. At first, it wasn't clear if the two incidents were connected. It has now been confirmed that they are.

According to a report from Pravda.sk, a note left at the scene of Pasek's death shows he took responsibility for the death of 24-year-old Sadecky.

"Sádecký was not in optimal health at the start of the league season," said a police source. "However, there was nothing serious or suspicious with his heart. He consulted with Pasek about whether he should undergo special examinations and be under observation to be sure. It would mean that he would not be on the ice for the club for some time. Pasek Jr. told Sadecky to play. He didn't have his health checked after talking to him."

Following Sadecky's death, doctors found an inflammation of his heart muscle contributed to his passing. It appears Pasek was unable to live with the fact that he had told Sadecky to stay with the team rather than seeking medical evaluations.

"Witnesses who were in contact with him after Sadecky's death have unanimously confirmed that he was shaken by the tragedy. It was also manifested by the fact that he smoked one cigarette after another," a police source said.

Besides the note, police also found a lot of cigarette butts at the scene and DNA analysis has confirmed they were smoked by Pasek.

Pasek's father, Dusan Pasek Jr., also died by his own hand. He was the president of the Slovak Ice Hockey Association at the time in 1998 but was said to be heavily in debt due to gambling.
