A lawyer representing the Chicago Blackhawks issued a pair of letters to the legal counsel for Kyle Beach and John Doe 2, respectively, on Thursday, according to TSN's Rick Westhead.

Westhead is reporting that the letter to Beach's lawyer was to inform the Beach camp that the team would not be extending a settlement offer to Beach, as the two sides appear to be very far apart on what a fair settlement would look like in this case. As a result, the NHL is hoping to bring in a mediator to determine a fair settlement.

When it comes to John Doe 2, the Blackhawks have agreed to cover the cost of therapy for John Doe 2 and his family. The team has also requested access to JD2's medical records, school transcripts and records of income.

The Blackhawks' lawyer also included a provision stating that «it should not be construed as an admission of fault or responsibility for JD2's injuries."

I understand that these are legal documents.. but do the contents of these letters seem cold as ice to anyone else? I mean - we're talking about a BILLION dollar franchise here.
