While it's still only preseason, things got a little heated between the New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils Wednesday night following an injury to offseason acquisition Ryan Reaves. Reaves was chasing a puck into the corner with PK Subban right behind him, when he appeared to trip over Subban's foot, going to the ice very awkwardly. In case you missed it:

Reaves would need help getting off the ice and did not return to the game. Some feel the injury is a result of a slewfoot by Subban. Subban doesn't see it that way.

"He's an important player for the their team, and a guy that I know," said Subban. "It's just unfortunate. I hate to see that. Obviously you saw my reaction after it happened, just trying to help him. But, I hope it's not too bad.

At the start of the second period, Reaves' teammate Chris Kreider tried to get some revenge by dropping the gloves with Subban. Subban decided not to go at that point.

"I didn't expect that. No one really said anything to me about fighting," said Subban following the game.

At the beginning of the third period, Kreider once again dropped the gloves with Subban, who dropped his own as well. The fight wouldn't amount to much as both fell to the ice almost immediately.

Subban said he decided to drop them that time because he wanted to help his team get back in the game and send a message that things happen in preseason.

Despite how ugly it looked, Rangers coach Gerard Gallant gave an update on Reaves at the end of the game and didn't sound overly concerned. He said early indications are that it's not serious, but the team will know more in a day or two.
