According to Edmonton Oilers head coach Dave Tippett, forward Josh Archibald had COVID-19 this past summer. As a result of the virus, he has been diagnosed with myocarditis and is out indefinitely.

For those who are unaware, Archibald was the only Oiler who was not vaccinated heading into the team's training camp. Since that news was first released, he hadn't been skating with the team as he was said to be struggling with fitness testing, and this is likely the reason why.

Archibald, 28, is in the final season of a two-year, $3 million contract. He played in 52 games with the Oilers last season, his second with the team, and recorded seven goals and 13 points. Hopefully he is able to overcome this unfortunate circumstance and continue his playing career.

Myocarditis is a disease that causes inflammation of the heart muscle. This inflammation can enlarge and weaken the heart, create scar tissue and force it to work harder to circulate blood and oxygen throughout the body. It is a known side effect of contracting COVID-19.
