The 2022 Winter Olympics are four months away with the first game being played on February 9th between the Russian Olympic Committee and Switzerland.

According to Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun, Canada's general manager Doug Armstrong has reportedly told his first three players that they are guaranteed spots on the roster. To the surprise of no one, those players are Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby, Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid, and Vegas Golden Knights defenceman Alex Pietrangelo.

"Team Canada GM Doug Armstrong has informed his mandatory three players they will be part of his Olympic team. No surprise the players are Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid (@cmcdavid97) and Alex Pietrangelo," Simmons said in a tweet on Sunday.

All twelve participating nations are required to release their long-list of 50 or more players on Friday, October 15th, while final rosters must be submitted by early-January.

Canada will open their tournament on February 10th against Germany, then will battle the United States on February 12th, and finishes up round robin play on February 13th against the host nation, China.
