The Carolina Hurricanes have added another assistant coach to the mix just weeks before the opening of training camp, per The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta.

On Thursday, the Hurricanes announced the hiring of former NHLer Tim Gleason to head coach Rod Brind'Amour's coaching staff.

Gleason, a 727-game NHL veteran played the vast majority of his 11 seasons in Carolina after starting his career with the LA Kings for a season and a half. Gleason played 546 games in Carolina and joined the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Washington Capitals for very brief stints in the latter years of his career, before retiring from professional hockey following the 2014-15 season.

Gleason and Brind'Amour are quite familiar with one another, as the two were teammates for five seasons in Carolina before Brind'Amour hung up his skates back in 2010.
