The Canadian Women's Hockey team recently won the gold medal at the IIHF Women's World Championship on Tuesday, but one of their star forwards was injured during the celebration.
28-year-old forward Blayre Turnbull broke her fibula during the team's celebration after winning the championship. She is expected to make a full recovery and be able to skate again in 6-8 weeks.
Turnbull was seen laying on the ice as the team celebrated when Marie-Philip Poulin sniped the overtime winner that gave Canada the win over the United States. Although she left the ice for an extended period, she still received her medal and listened to the playing of the Canadian national anthem by being moved around on a stretcher.
Originally from Stellarton, Nova Scotia, Turnbull appeared in seven games for Canada during the duration of the tournament, recording an assist and a plus-5 rating.
