Leafs, Sens forced to backtrack on COVID-19 policies to adhere to updated safety measures in Ontario

It appears as though any sports organizations in Ontario who were willing to accept a negative COVID-19 test to gain access to sporting events will have to reneg on that detail.

The decision comes after the announcement that enhanced safety protocols are being put in place effective September 22nd, 2021 in an attempt to mitigate the potential risk of another spike in positive COVID-19 cases in the province.

As of that date, all patrons of restaurants, bars, nightclubs, meeting/event spaces, fitness/sporting facilities, casinos, bingo halls, sporting events and more will require proof of double-vaccination and photo identification to be granted access.

This has obvious implications for both the Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs, who both reside in the Province of Ontario. Any fans who wish to attend home games or any type of peripheral activities surrounding the teams will be required to provide adequate documentation in order to gain access.

Part of the reason for this change in policy is likely due to food and beverage consumption and the fact that it is not possible to remain masked 100% of the time during these events.

This ever-evolving situation continues to generate a lot of discussion both for and against the decisions made by government and public health officials. Obviously, we're all ready to put this pandemic behind us and get back to leading our normal lives, but unfortunately, there is a considerable level of difficulty in reaching that goal.

As of now, everything remains very much "safety first".
